Dance Terms!

Ballet:
♥En L'air (ahn lehr): a movement to be done in the air.
♥Allegro(a-lay-GROH; Italian: al-LAY-groh): means brisk, or lively.
♥Arabesque (a-ra-BESK): a position of the body in profile, supported by one leg, which can be straight or demi-plie. Arabesque> 
♥Assemble (a-sahn-BLAY) a step meaning assembled, or joined together.
♥Balance (bal-lahn-SAY) a rocking step.
♥Battement (bat-MAHN) a beating action of the extended or bent leg. There are two types of battements, grands battement and petit battement.
♥Grands Battement: a large battement, or striked beating of the leg.
♥Chasse (cha-SAY)A step in which one foot literally chases the other foot out of its position; done in a series
♥En Dedans (ahn-duh-DAHN) a step meaning "inward" motion.
♥En Dehors (ahn-duh-AWR) a step meaning "outward" motion.
♥Demi-plie (duh-MEE-plee-AY) half-bend of the knees.
Tap:
♥Brush: a full brush of the foot against the ground.
♥Shuffle: to brush the foot forward on the ball of your feet.
♥Ball Change: Alternately weight on the balls of the feet from each foot.

♥Flap: a quick brush step to the front.
♥Step Toe: touch your left toe behind your right foot after you step with your right foot. Then comes stomping.
♥Shuffle Hop: do the basic shuffle with your right foot and then jump up.
♥Buffalo Step: A side traveling movement.
♥Chug: forceful scuff on the floor with the heel that pushes forward about 3 in.
♥Draw Back: rocking back on the heels of both feet, then at the same time, brush both feet back.
♥Fan Kick: One foot extends forward and upward, which will make a fan movement outwardly.
Jazz:
♥Pencil turn: Put your feet together and round your arms in front of you. Push off on one foot and turn with a straight leg. Now keep the non turning leg straight and turn inward towards the turning leg and then outward to the non turning one.
♥Pirouette: Kick one foot out in a small step and put your weight onto the other foot. Push off with your back leg and rise till the other one comes up and move your arms straight and sideways, then bring them close to your body.
♥Straddle Jump: Take off the floor with a push and jump with your legs extended to the side and reach your hands in the direction of your legs.

♥Layout: One of your legs is extended and your back is arched with your hands in the direction of your back.
♥Step Back: Step your left foot back.
♥Cross Right FootOver: Put your right foot across your left one.
♥Triplet Turns: Take a normal turning position with your arms rounded off in front of you and turn right on your right leg, bringing the left foot in front of you.
♥Leg Hold: Stand on one leg and hold on to a chair or a wall for support. Then with one hand, pick up the other leg, extend it to the north and hold it close to your head.
♥Step to the side: Now step aside with your right foot.
♥Barrel Turn: Stand with your legs apart and step back with your right foot. Stand on the ball of your foot and turn in a semi circle on your right foot, lifting up your left foot. Move your arms in a circle when you are turning and then try turning with your knees bent.
