Group guidance sessions, coordinated by the counselors,
are a required part of the Beaumont curriculum. This developmental program
allows students to receive academic, college, and career information, gain
awareness, interact with their peers, verbalize their feelings, and shape their
attitudes and values. The focus for each grade level is as follows:
9th Grade Transition and adjustment to Beaumont School 10th Grade Career Awareness
PSAT Preparation
ACT Career Planning Program
11th Grade Career Exploration Process
Holland Self-Directed Career Search
Junior Shadowing
PSAT Preparation
College Selection Process12th Grade College Application and Admission Process and Procedures

Small-group and individual counseling are provided for students who have problems or difficulties dealing with relationships, personal concerns, or normal developmental tasks. The focus is on assisting students to identify problems and causes, alternative choices/behaviors, possible consequences, and to take action when appropriate.

School counselors consult with parents, teachers, other educators, and community agency personnel regarding strategies to help students manage and resolve personal/social, educational, and career concerns. Counselors use other professional resources of the school and community to refer students when appropriate.

Representatives from numerous colleges and universities visit Beaumont during the year, and seniors and juniors are urged to take advantage of these visits. Students are encouraged to attend outside college fairs after the school day and to schedule college visits/tours when classes are not in session

Beaumont students and their parents/guardians are expected to schedule an appointment with the college counselor during the second semester of the junior year to explore and evaluate the student's academic performance and consider her options for college admission and placement.

Junior Shadowing is a valuable learning experience for all juniors. A shadowing day is held in the spring allowing students to expand their understanding of the world of work. Each student will contact a sponsor who will share his/her professional expertise with the student for at least five hours of his/her workday. Specific guidelines must be followed to earn a passing grade.
Note: It is highly recommended that juniors participate in the Junior Shadowing experience. However, if they choose not to participate, they simply continue with their course work and remain in school on the day other students are excused for the activity.

Beaumont believes that the Individual Learning Time program encourages responsibility, self-discipline, and self-control. ILT allows time for meeting with teachers or tutors for extra help, conferring with guidance counselors and meeting college reps. With teacher permission, students may also use the library and foyer (for quiet study), the computer lab and the dining room. Students with ILT privileges must choose one of these areas within the established passing time between classes, so as to not disturb the educational atmosphere of the school.
Should a student's parents, teachers or counselor find she is unable to use her ILT effectively, a conference will be held and appropriate action will be taken; as a result, the student may be placed in a formal supervised study for the remainder of the term.

Because Beaumont believes that direct experience in a variety of environments can enhance learning, we have instituted a 2-week community education program for seniors. Project R.E.A.L., directed by a professional in the field, seeks to expose the student to people, experiences and ideas which are not part of the ordinary classroom routine. This opportunity will allow her to engage in personally chosen work oriented toward career or service.
Note: It is highly recommended that seniors participate in Project R.E.A.L. However, if they choose not to participate, they simply continue with their course work and remain in school on the day/s other students are excused for the activity. Specific guidelines must be followed to earn a passing grade.
