Don’t forget to vote on November 8th and while you’re at it, look for Beaumont students at the polls. Cuyahoga County will be training girls from our Government class to be actual paid election day workers this fall and for the March primary.

Science faculty receives Governor’s Award for Excellence

For the third time in four years, Beaumont’s Science Department has been recognized for teachers with the ability to stimulate student-oriented, inquiry-based scientific research and to extend science education opportunities beyond the traditional classroom activities. Congratulations, teachers!

Honors French students make a real "French connection"

This year, they will be corresponding via both e-mail and snail mail with students in Ursuline sister school, Ste Ursule a Tours in Tours, France. They will exchange photos and letters describing typical teen life, families and education in their respective countries as well as future goals and their personal views on current political and social situations around the world. And it truly is a small world -- Catherine Kundtz Jouve ‘65, the teacher from Ste Ursule a Tours who has been corresponding with our Mr. Langa, is a Beaumont alumna. She taught French at Beaumont in 1969-’70, married a Frenchman, has four grown children, and has lived in France for 30 years.

Brittany Prevo ’06 performs in Africa with liturgical dance troupe. A member of the African-American Duffy Liturgical Dance Ensemble, Brittany traveled to Goree Island, Africa on a performance tour this summer. While there, the ensemble walked in the footsteps of African captives who suffered in West Africa as they waited to be shipped out of their homeland into slavery. Brittany says, "The trip to Africa has given me a rare appreciation of family values and traditions, as well as knowledge of the hardships our ancestors suffered and how Africans today use their ingenuity to overcome present day hardships."

Two students take on leadership roles

Diana Robinson ’04 was accepted to attend Ohio Business Week at the University of Findlay in July. The program brought together students, educators and business people from across the state to define and develop the personal and professional skills essential for success. An aspiring entrepreneur, Diana hopes to have her own clothing store. Kaleigh Gallagher ’05 will represent Beaumont as a member of the Leadership Lake County Youth Program for 2003-2004. Throughout the year the student leaders will explore Lake County history, government, environment, economy and much more. Congratulations, girls!

Emma Knoth ’05 "acted up" at Brown University where she attended a 5-week summer theater program which included classes in Movement, Acting and Design and culminated in a final project, the Tony Kushner play Yes, Yes, No, No.

Cincinnati Convention features Beaumont teachers. Three dynamic high school sessions at the Ohio Catholic Education Association Convention in September were conducted by Beaumont’s own. Mr. John-Michael Langa presented "Travel with Students: The Difference Between Just Surviving It and Dying to Do It Again." Mrs. Alice Pamies presented "Strands of Pearls: The Five Strands of Ohio Foreign Language." Mrs. Lucy Swisher presented "Active Learning for Theology." We’re proud of you all!
