A group of Beaumont art students along with Ms. Hudak and Ms. LoPresti recently went to Pittsburgh to explore the many art museums and cultural events in the city. Below are the daily journals from Ms. LoPresti.
Our first visit was throughout the three building at The Mattress Factory discussing various forms of instillation art and then gallery hopping down Liberty Ave in the evening.
At The Frick we saw Helen Frick’s private collection & greenhouse. The docent lead the girls through an experiential learning process about medieval gilds and then they created two projects, one of an alter piece with “gold” foil and the other of a stained glass panel.
At the ballet that evening while seeing Swan Lake with PBT orchestra, the group had an unplanned encounter with a former Beaumont student, Spencer Waldeck. She attended Beaumont her freshman and sophomore year and just last year left to attend the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School. She was representing her ballet school at the performance and was posing as Odette, the swan princess, for photographs with those attending the performance. Our seniors in particular were thrilled to see her.
On the final day we visited the Andy Warhol Museum and then sketched at the Phipps Conservatory- which is absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend all to visit. Our artists and their work were all admired for their beautiful sketches and watercolor paintings they were creating in their sketchbooks of the all the flowers and plants.
We wrapped up the evening with a homemade family dinner where Ms. Hudak and I cooked for the girls and then we all did Korean masks (courtesy of Anna Fox) and watched Woman in Gold.
Today we did some light shopping and then spent the afternoon at the Carnegie Museum and Art & Natural History. We finished the trip with a ride on the incline.
The girls were amazing and we are happy to be home with great memories.
