Cleveland Heights, Ohio- Brooklynn Roulette and Josie Smyser, juniors at Beaumont School were selected to participate in this year’s Look Up to Cleveland. To be considered for the program, students must submit an application that is reviewed based on the student’s leadership abilities, participation in various organizations/clubs, academic achievements, and demonstration of taking initiative.

LookUp is a seven-month program consisting of several full-day workshops that will allow the selected high school students to develop valuable leadership skills and form lasting connections. Each session is designed for the students to develop interpersonal skills through team-based activities, gain an understanding of diversity through working with students from various backgrounds, interact with local leaders, and explore Cleveland.

According to Alicia McLean, Director of School Counseling at Beaumont, “LookUp to Cleveland is an important organization that offers our students hands-on opportunities to develop as leaders and to learn the importance of local community involvement. They get out and get involved in Cleveland, building relationships with their like-minded peers and community leaders that last well beyond their high school tenure.”

Josie has previously participated in programs presented by the Cleveland Leadership Center and found each experience to be valuable in developing her leadership abilities. “I’m excited to make lasting connections with other leaders in the Cleveland area, honing my leadership style, and collaborating with various other leadership styles,” said Josie.

“I am inspired by the goals of the program and the opportunity to develop leadership skills for the future. I look forward to collaborating with other high school leaders and serving the Cleveland community,” said Brooklynn.
