Posted on May 12, 2022 in Press Releases

Cleveland Heights, Ohio- Marykate Kessinger, a sophomore at Beaumont School was selected by the National Coalition of Girls to receive an all-expenses-paid scholarship to attend Jersey College for Girls’ LEAP (Leadership and Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme) this summer. Marykate, the owner of Marycakes Delights, submitted an elevator pitch to NCGS that pitched her idea to develop her business into a social enterprise that provides underprivileged children the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship. She was one of three girls from NCGS schools to be awarded this scholarship to attend LEAP this summer.

LEAP is a one-and-a-half-week program for female entrepreneurs between 14-18 years old to develop business, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills by launching social enterprise projects to help target current global issues. Over the course of the program, the girls will participate in lectures, workshops, challenges, and debates all while learning from CEOs, managing directors, and entrepreneurs. At the end of the program, each group will pitch their social enterprise projects to a team of globally recognized experts that will act as investors in their projects.

Marykate looks forward to experiencing business and innovation from a global perspective with 60 other girls and entrepreneurial leaders from around the world. By participating in the LEAP program this summer, she hopes to “gain a better sense of operating and pursuing a life in business with the help of mentors and influential speakers, as well as learn to engage with girls from around the world with various backgrounds, perspectives, and goals.”

Marykate is also a member of Beaumont’s Entrepreneurship Club and notes that she has “learned the importance of communication, organization, and passion when building a business” through various Veale Youth Entrepreneur Forum activities that “have built my confidence and devotion to pursuing a life in business.”
