Beaumont School Names Dorothy Moulthrop ’91, Ph. D., as Incoming Chair of the Board of Directors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Beaumont School is proud to announce that Dorothy Russo Moulthrop ’91, Ph.D., has been named Chair of the Board of Directors, effective July 1. Moulthrop most recently served as Vice Chair and is a member of the Executive Committee. She has served on the Board since 2019. She is a proud Beaumont alumna, the mother of a recent Class of 2025 graduate, and part of a multigenerational legacy that includes 11 relatives - sisters, aunts, cousins, and nieces - who have also attended Beaumont.

Moulthrop is the Chief Executive Officer of Open Doors Academy, a nonprofit organization that provides afterschool, summer, student travel, and family programs to thousands of K–12 scholars across Northeast Ohio and the state. She oversees the Center for Out-of-School Advancement, a department of ODA committed to advocacy and ensuring all children have access to high-quality after-school and summer programs.

She holds a doctoral degree in education policy and leadership from The Ohio State University, where her research focused on the intersection of policy and practice in educational equity and excellence. She has been an adjunct professor at Cleveland State University, teaching in the Center for Educational Leadership.

Earlier in her career, Moulthrop served as an education consultant, Director of Curriculum and Faculty Development at Hawken School, and English teacher at Shaker Heights High School and San Lorenzo High School in California. She earned her BA in Comparative Literature and Italian from Northwestern University, her teaching license from the University of California at Berkeley, and her MA from Ursuline College.

“I am honored to lead Beaumont's Board of Directors and to give back to a community that has given so much to me,” said Moulthrop. “I am the person and the leader I am today because of the values of the Ursuline tradition that were instilled in me and my classmates at Beaumont School: a belief in the power of educating women, a commitment to social justice, and a call to build community wherever you go. I am excited to leverage the strong foundation of our first 175 years as we plan for our next.”

“Dorothy’s deep experience in education and nonprofit leadership, along with her commitment to Beaumont’s mission and Ursuline legacy, make her exceptionally well suited to lead the Board as the school prepares to celebrate its 175th anniversary in September 2025,” said Beaumont President Wendy Hoke.

President Hoke also expressed gratitude to outgoing Board Chair Suzanne Hanselman, a Partner at BakerHostetler, who recently completed a four-year term and is concluding her ninth and final year on the Board.
